With the support of the Leonardo da Vinci programme of the European Union

Restaurant serviceEurope is one of the most varied and attractive tourist areas, its multicultural diversity and its artistic inheritance are unequalled in the world; tourism plays a major role in creating growth and jobs and promotes regional development; it is one of the biggest and fast expanding European economic sectors.
In order to improve the quality of service and achieve higher levels of job satisfaction in the sector it is necessary to improve the quality and accessibility of education and training. All sectors are affected, but special attention is needed for those who are directly in touch with the tourist.

This project is focused specially in the low skill sector directly dealing with the client, recent statistics show that in the participant countries, highly experienced in Tourism such as Greece or Spain or Bulgaria with emergent growth in the sector all suffer from deficient trained staff in languages.
The project main aim is creating a tool in 6 facilitating language learning for the low-skilled workers in the tourist sector through a Language virtual simulator; Based upon constructivist methodology the user will participate directly in the process of learning-creation through simulated experiences. The language simulator will present simulated current help desk and client-dealing situations in a didactic way; the script will be based in real experiences in customer’s behaviour in restaurants, hotels, etc. The students will be prompted by situations where they will have to react in the second language and solve the situation.Reception

Before the simulation scene the students will have to go through the preparation materials, resources and didactic tips that will help them in managing the simulated scene. The training materials will also comprise information about good manners in service, cultural specific features of customers, ethics and fundamentals for customer satisfaction. The Simulator will be framed within the LEVELS A1, A2  and to some extent to level B1 of the “CEFRL”.

The partnership has been selected according to sectorial parameters (experience in tourism, importance of the native language in tourism, demand of training, expansive tourist market) and according to know-how requirements where it is divided in two main groups: technical developers, e-learning specialist and web application experts and pedagogic team with experience in language training The Simulator will be disseminated through the partners institutions into the associations of tourism, the European Tourist Destinations Portal, (comprising all the European countries national tourism offices) to ETAG (European Travel & Tourism Action Group) and the UNWTO, (World tourism associations) the main of the product when finished is that of being transferred into other European languages and countries.  The final product will be tested in the work-placements, for this purpose equipment will be rented.
